When this bride-to-be contacted me for her engagement photos, she knew exactly what she wanted. It was perfect. I had heard of Boyce Thompson Arboretum, and it was on my long list of things to see at some point. What I didn’t expect was the ridiculously incredible landscape we found there. This is not your average botanical garden! As I got closer to the end of my 5 AM drive (summer in Arizona means lots of sunrise engagement sessions) I was already so excited for these photos. Watching the sun come up on the mountains around the Superior, Arizona area was magical.
Once we were inside the Arboretum, we found cliff sides, desert landscapes, groves of trees, and a little greenhouse. There was some of everything! At one point we were taking in the scenery, and I was snapping some photos when I heard hoof steps behind me. Running at full speed into a patch of trees was an enormous WILD PIG. I was speechless, and extremely confused. Apparently it was a javelina and they’re native to Arizona! After a quick Google search, I also found out they aren’t technically pigs, but close enough. I had no idea and I never thought I’d need to prepare to encounter a wild pig during engagement photos, but I guess lesson learned – I have to be ready for literally anything.
Despite our close encounter with the javelina, I was so excited about how this Boyce Thompson Arboretum engagement session turned out. More than anything I just love exploring new landscapes and getting creative with capturing them! I have the best couples and I’m so grateful that they’re always willing to have a laid back adventure during their sessions.
This session was absolutely worth the early morning and the drive! Boyce Thompson Arboretum definitely made my list of locations for engagement sessions. I believe they also do weddings! I’m booking 2020 weddings right now, but I do have limited availability for engagement sessions over the next couple of months before Arizona wedding season swings in hard.
