A proposal is one of my favorite things to shoot, especially in a location as beautiful as the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. Planning a surprise and photographing in stealth mode really scratches my itch for undercover work (any other true crime fans know how I feel? Haha!) In all seriousness, being part of one of the happiest moments in someone’s life is a huge honor. The genuine emotions that come after a proposal are the rare moments I live to capture.
When this soon-to-be groom contacted me about photographing his surprise proposal, I knew it was going to be good. He already had an elaborate plan in place, with an excuse for them both to be dressed up. Even better than that was seeing how excited he was to propose! While scouting the garden for the perfect spot, he kept saying “I just wish it was Saturday already!”. When Saturday finally came, I got to the Botanical Garden early to wait at the proposal spot. I photographed plants as a cover to stay hidden in plain sight. When they arrived, he wasted no time getting down on one knee and popping the question! He genuinely surprised her, so our plan worked!

A proposal or more at the Desert Botanical Garden
The garden is a highlight of Phoenix, and an amazing spot to propose, but there’s so much more to it! It’s also a perfect location for an engagement session. Looking for a unique wedding venue for an Arizona wedding? Get married in the garden surrounded by native plants! I promise there’s so much more than cacti. It’s also a perfect date night if you’re anything like me and just love plants.
