Rarely does a wedding day go completely smoothly – and while this Flagstaff, Arizona elopement was no exception, everything turned out more perfectly than anyone could have hoped. I woke up to rain in the morning, then drove to Flagstaff in a monsoon. The forecast showed storms with thunder and lightning throughout the night. I talked to the couple before I started traveling, and they were totally calm. They are fellow lovers of the rain and said it was only fitting for their elopement. As long as the lightning stopped and we were safe, I had my rain gear ready to go!
Rain was still drizzling when I arrived in Flagstaff at their AirBnB. The house was filled with laughter and a 70’s-inspired playlist while the couple and their best friends got ready together. Everyone was perfectly relaxed.

I was also beyond excited about the beautiful details for this celestial themed elopement! The couple had a clear vision for their elopement, which happened to be on the first day of the fall equinox. This bride did an amazing job planning and so many talented people helped make her vision come to life.

This low-key first look was one of my favorites. It was also a bit spontaneous! As I was taking photos of the groom finishing getting ready, the bride was about to come downstairs. I was luckily able to get the groom over to the staircase quickly enough to capture him seeing her in her wedding dress for the first time and it was such a sweet moment.
As we got in the car to meet the officiant, the rain had turned to an inconsistent sprinkle. After following the wet trail to the ceremony location, the clouds then finally parted to reveal the first snow of the year on Mt. Humphrey’s, Flagstaff’s signature snowcap.
More celestial details
The couple designed their rings together and they are seriously rad. The bride’s is a moon phase, and has two gold crescent moons on each side of a ruby red full moon as the center stone. It is a completely unique ring, and it perfectly matched the celestial theme for this elopement! The groom’s ring gave me real Jafar from Disney’s Aladdin vibes. His ring is a serpent wrapping around his finger, and has ruby eyes to match his bride’s ring.
