I love doing “first look” or “day-after” sessions on a different day than the wedding day. While I do help my couples build a timeline for their day that fits everything they want in it, it’s always nice to be able to take whatever you can off your plate on your wedding day, so that you have more time to enjoy it! Separate formal sessions are an excuse to put your wedding clothes on again for a more laid back day of photos. It also gives us the opportunity to change up the landscape! We chose the Riparian Preserve in Gilbert for this bridal photo shoot. It was a perfect mixture of different landscapes, from classic desert with towering saguaros, to a pretty lake, to tree lined pathways.
Emily and Ryan got back from their honeymoon Friday, and met me at Saturday morning. In between that Emily also made her own bouquet, and did her hair and makeup (seriously so talented), got them back in their wedding clothes and met me at 5 AM for their bridal photo shoot. Even after all that, they were still more awake than I was, because as we were exploring the Riparian Preserve, they spotted a hidden field full of green grass, shrubs, and trees that I totally missed. That amount of green is definitely a rare find in Arizona, especially in July!
I love the variety we got in this Riparian Preserve bridal photo session! Exploring new landscapes is always fun, even if they’re in the middle of Gilbert instead of on a mountainside. I love finding hidden gems that are centrally located like this is. As much as I love adventuring, I’m still the type of person who would choose driving up to a viewpoint over a hike any day!
