Once I’ve booked an engagement session with a couple, the first thing to do is usually figure out where they want to shoot! For couples wanting their shoot in Arizona, I have a list of locations to help this process along. Some of these locations are my tried-and-true favorites, which are always good choices! Some are also locations I’ve never shot at before. It’s always fun to explore a new location, so I was thrilled when this couple chose the Superstition Mountains as the backdrop for their engagement photos.
Finding a location in the Superstition Wilderness was not the easiest task, though! The obvious option would have been Lost Dutchman State Park, which is directly in front of the mountains. It’s a gorgeous spot, but the park requires a pretty expensive permit for photography. The Superstition Wilderness was also plagued by wildfires this summer, meaning a lot of areas were closed for safety. After lots of driving and hiking, I lucked out. I found this perfect patch of desert with the best view of the mountains just one day before their session!
Engagement photo session in the Superstition Wilderness
This couple travelled all the way from New York city for their engagement session, where they are both actors. One of the shows they have done is The Great Gatsby, which partially inspired their outfits. Her gorgeous vintage emerald lace dress was thrifted for only $8! Telling me about your best thrift store finds will always impress me.
Sometimes I ask my couples to do a little dance during their session. Rarely are they actual trained dancers, so I was not prepared for this couple’s skill level!
This Superstition Mountains engagement session definitely earned this location a permanent spot on my list.
If you still need an engagement session this year, please contact me now! Wedding season has started and I have extremely limited availability through the beginning of next year. Claim your spot before I’m fully booked!
